Gente, gente, gente. Un transeúnte cualquiera irradia de pronto la magia que incita al fotógrafo peatón a disparar su cámara, y quizá quienes hayan presenciado esa misma escena no le hayan prestado la mínima importancia; ni a la escena ni al artista furtivo. Qué habrá visto de especial el artista en esos gestos, en sus atuendos que ha sucumbido al capricho de plasmarlos para siempre. Es muy probable que no lo averigüen sino hasta después que el fotógrafo exponga la imagen… puede que el resultado los desconcierte: una carcajada florida, un andar presuroso, un cruce de piernas, un apretón de manos. Bolsos y zapatos volando bajo la lluvia o entre el apremio de los días laborables. Ascenso y descenso de elevadores y vagones de metro. Figuras solitarias deslizándose al final de un túnel que evoca imágenes religiosas. O modelos ocasionales –turistas- que posan para otro fotógrafo que en realidad no tiene tantos deseos de inmortalizarlos. Y el ojo del otro fotógrafo, al acecho de la historia que desvela cada gesto sutil o cotidiano; cada movimiento de una ciudad inmersa en su silencios de poesía.
El fotógrafo portugués, Nuno Figueira
, 37 años, ha viajado por toda Europa acompañado de su Nikon D90, pero la gente le interesa mucho más que los atractivos de cada ciudad regala:
"Ni siquiera me considero un fotógrafo-dice Nuno con algo que parece profundamente sincero pese a la belleza de sus imágenes y la cámara que porta contra su corazón, no como una prótesis sino como algo profundamente amado- Soy solo un tipo al que le gusta caminar tomado de la mano de "su chica" (muestra la cámara) y "congelar" para la eternidad momentos que probablemente no le importen a nadie…hasta que alguien presiona el botón del obturador y… Voilá!...más que un trabajo, la fotografía me relaja, es mi precioso momento a solas conmigo mismo, en que la cámara y yo no volvemos uno solo.
Nuno Figueira señala haber nacido con una cámara: era la gran afición de sus padres y eso despertó al artista que lo habitaba:
"Mi primer contacto con una cámara fue a los seis años: la Pentax Spotmatic SPIII de mi padre, que aún conservo. Pero luego me olvidaría de la fotografía por largo tiempo, hasta que un amigo me habló del Deviant Art (que algunos conocen como el Facebook de los artistas, pese a que este portal es todavía más viejo) y empecé a hacer fotos de nuevo por entretenimiento. Compré una pequeña cámara digital, aunque mi actual cámara es una Nikon D90. Mi esposa me obsequió en alguno de mis compleaños una cámara Holga (cámara Lomo) que yo sencillamente adoro y es ideal para captar esas imagines cotidianas. Cuento, además, con la crítica y consejo de queridos amigos que parecen interesados en mi trabajo: Toupeira

"Al principio –continúa- hacía fotos por diversión, sin una búsqueda estética particular…pero luego de las primeras fotos me di cuenta de que mi objetivo se desviaba todo el tiempo de lo que naturalmente debiera atraer mi atención –los paisajes –y se enfocaba en escenas de la vida diaria. Cuando acepté que eso, y no los paisajes, era lo que me atraía, empecé a explorar disimuladamente y quedé sorprendido con los resultados…pero por lo mismo no me considero un fotógrafo de calle, sino de escenas cotidianas.
¿Cómo explicaría Nuno esa fijación por lo que nadie ve, excepto cuando un fotógrafo experto descubre en ese sujeto particular una historia que narrar?
"Te diré un secreto: soy un poco ruidoso (risas)…no, solo bromeaba: a algunos les gusta mirar pájaros. Yo amo caminar alrededor de la gente y captar ese gesto singular o simplemente momentos ordinarios, pero eso resulta más difícil de lo que pudiera pensarse, y solo haciéndolo en grandes ciudades se vuelve menos arriesgado. Muy raras veces hago fotos en bellos lugares rurales. Creo que me excita volverme invisible en medio de las muchedumbres, es como ser un poco dios que puedes mirar a cualquiera a tus anchas sin que te confundan con un maniaco. Pero lo esencial de este tipo de trabajo es que, a través de mis sujetos de trabajo, me miro a mí mismo.
Nuno Figueira, sin embargo, se reconoce un fotógrafo no muy viajero, y en efecto, la mayoría de su trabajo se ubica en su natal Lisboa, "y sí, siempre me acompaña mi cámara, al grado que mi esposa bromea diciéndome que es como "tu pequeña hija" o también "La Otra".
Varias de las fotografías de Nuno podrían considerarse "fotoperiodísticas" porque captan marchas o momentos tensos de la vida política de su país, ¿realiza este tipo de fotos con una consciencia social, o dichas fotos son prolongación de su obsesión por lo cotidiano?
"¡Amo el foto-periodismo! Siento un enorme respeto por la profesión y los fotógrafos que cubren esta área. Considero que es extremadamente difícil porque estás exponiendo tu vida por lograr la imagen que lo diga todo. Mi gran duda es: ¿Puedo esto considerarse artístico? ¡Yo creo que sí!, aunque parezca difícil concebir que una escena terrible sea arte. Lo cierto es que el foto periodismo atrapa momentos únicos y reales…y por alguna maniobra especial puede llegar a ser artístico. Por cierto: me considero incapaz de abarcar esta área.
¿Qué tan importante es la edición para el efecto que logras en tus fotos, donde esos instantes, esas personas, esas actitudes, se sienten tan tangibles, tan entrañables?
"Normalmente estoy editando la foto en el momento mismo de hacerla, después la someto a un proceso de edición minimalista, ajustes menores en niveles y exposición. Mis fotos en movimiento son panorámicas y absolutamente reales…aunque he de decir que no soy un purista, como creo que lo refleja mi trabajo.
Gran parte del trabajo de Nuno está trabajado en blanco negro, ¿qué efecto pretende otorgar el fotógrafo al eliminar el color de lo que, pareciera saltar a la vista, son escenas llenas de coloridos pobladas por globos y palomas?
"El color es un distractor de lo esencial –señala Nuno- Yo quiero que la Mirada se centre en lo esencial, que no se distraiga de aquello que me ha cautivado. ¡Nada de colores que distraigan! Y por el momento estoy trabajando predominantemente en blanco y negro.
Otro elemento distintivo de la fotografía de Nuno es el movimiento: autos, trenes, metro, gente corriendo bajo la lluvia o bajo el sol,…y es justamente a través de estas fotos que su obra empezó a capturar fuertemente mi atención: esa vida que no requiere artificios para respirar ante los ojos del espectador:
"Hago este tipo de fotos cuando empiezo a aburrirme de la cotidianidad –señala riendo- o "se me escapan" las ideas y me quedo de repente ante territorios desolados. Entonces busco el movimiento: ese es mi escape…y me agrada que te guste porque son las fotos que, en lo personal, más me gustan también
Por el momento, Nuno no tiene proyectos en particular ni intenciones de incursionar en otro tipo de fotografía, aunque no lo descarta. La espontaneidad, sin embargo, parece ser parte del encanto de su extraordinario trabajo.

People, people, people. A passerby radiates suddenly magic pedestrian prompting the photographer to shoot his camera unexpectedly, and perhaps those who have witnessed the same scene would not have given a high importance, to scene or to artist sneaky. What will be seen from the artist in particular gestures, in their dress that has succumbed to the whim of translating them forever. It is very likely not find out until later that the photographer can expose the image ... the result is a complete surprise: a radiant laugh, a hurried walk, a crossing of legs or a romantic handshake. Bags and shoes flying in the rain or from working days' pressure. Rise and fall in elevators and subway. Sliding solitary figures at the end of a tunnel that evokes religious imagery. Casual-models: tourists posing for another photographer that has not really so eager to immortalize. And another photographer's eye, watching for the story that reveals subtle or everyday every gesture, every movement of a city steeped in poetry silences.
Portuguese photographer, Nuno Figueira
, 37, has traveled all over Europe with his Nikon D90, but people are interested in much more than the attractions of each city gives:
"I don't consider myself a photographer -says Nuno- i'm just a guy who likes to walk around with a camera and "frozen" for eternity some episodes of life, just pressing the shutter button and Voilà….normally i shoot after work, helps me to relax, it's my moment alone, just me and my camera as one….Nuno Figueira said to have been born with a camera was the great love of his parents and that awakened the artist who lived.

"My first contact with a camera at the age of six, with my father's Pentax Spotmatic SPII (that i still have) . Then I forget photography for a long time (don't know way). Someday a friend let me know about DeviantArt and i start photographing again…and bought a small digital camera, then my current camera, Nikon D90 and my wife in one of my birthdays, gave me a Holga (lomo camera), that I love…..avail myself of the moment to thanks the marvelous support of my friends, Toupeira

, that since the first days in DA always encouraging me and comment about my work. first contact was with a camera at age six: the Pentax Spotmatic SPIII of my father, which I still have. But then I forget photography for a long time, until a friend told me about the Deviant Art (which someone called the Facebook of artists, although this site is even older) and started taking photos again for entertainment .
"At the beginning I shoot randomly, no style in particular -he continues- Well! and I think that I still don't have a landmark style, you know (lol)…..but yes! I try to capture moments of everyday life, explore and be surprised….but I'm not a street photographer….
He continues took pictures for fun, with no particular aesthetic search ... but after his first pictures he realized that his goal was diverted around people: "I love to walk around people and capture single or just ordinary moments or scenes, but it's a little odd, just in urban environment….rarely I photograph in other places rather than urban ones…..it's very exciting try to turn yourself invisible, almost like a god who can see everything /everyone and not be seined he. Street photography help me to better understanding of the world we live in and about myself too. Im naturally attracted by everyday scenes. I began to explore surreptitiously and was surprised with the results ... but the same can not consider myself a street photographer, but of everyday scenes.
How would you explain this fixation Nuno so no one sees, except when an expert photographer in that particular subject discovers a story to tell?
"I'll tell you a secret: I'm a bit noisy (laughs) ... no, just kidding: some like to watch birds. I love walking around people and capture this singular gesture or just ordinary moments,. Very rarely I do photos in beautiful rural locations. I prefer to become invisible, it's like being a little god that anyone can look at your leisure without being mistaken for a maniac. But the essence of this work is that, by working my subjects, I look at myself.
Nuno Figueira, however, recognizes a photographer not very traveler, and indeed, most of his work lies in his native Lisbon, "and yes, my camera is always with me, at the point that my wife teases me that is like "your little girl" or also "The Other".
Several photographs of Nuno could be considered "photojournalistic" because they capture marches or tense moments of the political life of their country, do you do this kind of pictures with a social conscience, and these pictures are prolonging his obsession with the everyday?
"I love photo journalism, I have a lot of respect for the profession and professionals in that area of photography. Ithink it's extremely difficult and sometimes you put yourself in danger, but it's a risk that you must face. If can be artistic!?! I think so!, but most by change, not something conceived to be…..photo journalistic images are all about the impact of unique and real moments….sometimes they are artistic.
"By the way, I suck in this area of photography, he, he...
How important is the issue to the effect that you achieve in your photos where these moments, these people, these attitudes are so tangible, so endearing?
"Normally I capture the moment just as it is and so far minimal editing, just minor adjustments in levels and exposure…all my motion photos and panning are real. But I'm no puritan as you can see by my work….
Much of the work of Nuno is worked in black white, what the photographer intended to give effect to remove the color of which, it seems to jump to the eye, are filled with colorful scenes populated by balloons and pigeons?
"Color is distractive, I prefer present my work without distractions…no distractive colors around, just the simple moment in black and white….
Another distinctive feature of the photograph is the movement Nuno: cars, trains, metro, people running in the rain or under the sun ... and it is precisely through these pictures that his work began to capture my attention strongly: that life requires no artifice to breathe in the eyes of the beholder:
Normally I shoot that kind of photos, when I'm bored, when I have no ideas or just can find one….motion and panning it's my escape….but Im glad that you like them
By the moment, Nuno has no particular projects or intentions to venture into other types of photography, but does not rule. Spontaneity, however, seems to be part of the charm of their extraordinary work.
